Project Background

Detty is a lifestyle app designed to bring vibrancy, convenience, and engagement into users’ daily lives. It aims to curate a personalized lifestyle ecosystem by blending features such as event discovery, social networking, on-demand services, and a marketplace for lifestyle products. The app targets urban millennials and Gen Z, offering them tools to easily explore, plan, and enhance their daily activities. I worked as the design lead on Detty, creating the branding, mobile app, website and admin dashboard for it.

Going to a New City? Detty got you Covered
Detty focuses on elevating the experience tourists and travellers get when they enter a new city. Its an all in one destination app that helps you to find where the party is at, the best places to shop, eat and much more. Detty was created to reduce the research travellers need to make by reading multiple reviews, reddit posts and forums just to get information about the do's and don'ts in a new city

From festivals to parties, to city guides, eSIMs and much more detty optimizes your app experience based on your destination. I designed the app to have dynamic cards that display content based on what you interact with the most and also events and places to visit that are closet to you. For detty I studied the Google Maps approach for discovering new places and built upon that by prioritizing what users want to see, real reviews from other people and up to date pictures of these locations.

Discover New Locations
Detty curates unique experiences for each location in partnership with businesses and creators on the ground that fuel the platform. Everything uploaded on the detty platform is vetted before being added which ensures high standards, in comparison with an open system like google maps. I created unique card concepts for each city that will be expanded on to show the culture and uniqueness of each city.

Things to Do
After classifying the different areas of the app. The "Things to do" section was created, this was further categorized into daytime activities, nightlife, cultural events and festivals, outdoor, tours and experiences and event bookings. These fields allowed users to filter the kind of experiences they would prefer to have in a new city. The product was also designed to accomodate further categories created in the future.

User behaviour is most African regions prioritize contact phone numbers for businesses rather than emails, I introduced a whatsapp chat feature for each event listing, along with social media page as that is a core part of the application. For the product MVP we choose to limit the scope to only show event listings and all bookings will be done on other third-party platforms, either eventbrite or any platform the business uses. You also get recommendations of similar events and their dates at the bottom of the page.

Businesses (Food, Shopping, Accomodation, Conceirge)
Detty onboards various top rated businesses within the location that provide various services. We were able to categorize these businesses under food, accomodation, shopping, beauty and wellness, conceirge services etc. I created filters under each category, so that as the platform scales with more businesses users can easily discover new listings specific to what they are looking for. Each business has a location, operating time, description and then reviews. Each of these fields captures key information that tourist will need to make a decision on visiting restaurant or booking a spa session.

Detty also offers different types of accomodation for tourists, including short stays, hotels. Providing all the necessary information like what the features each apartment listing offers. Users can choose to book the apartment after viewing reviews and information from that listing.

Detty City Guide
I introduced various blog type city guides to give similar information that tourists would have to search for prior to visiting a place on forum platforms like reddit and quora. We curate specific information like travel guides and documents tourists with passports from various countries require to visit, where to exchange currency at the airport and other general information they need on transportation and how to get around the city. This feature is dynamic and will be updated with content on a regular basis to keep tourists engaged on the platform, bringing the best recommendations, gist and trending news in that area.

Wallet Creation
This is an optional feature for tourists that want to gain access to banking and other financial services within a location. We noticed a major issue tourists face especially in Nigeria which is currency conversion and having to carry large amounts of cash around because of lack of access to financial services. The wallet allows users to create and fund a local currency account by providing minimal KYC information. This feature is only currently available in Nigeria due to banking restrictions but will expand to include multicurrency wallets from any location you visit with a local bank account to spend and receive money.

We also included virtual card services allowing users to create different cards attached to their wallet. They can use these cards to spend in local currency. Users can also order physical cards giving them the full financial experience of the city.

eSIMs
Another major issue tourists face is lack of connectivity including mobile network and internet services. We introduced eSIMs users can purchase through the app for a specific number of days without requiring an international passport or any other complex KYC information. After purchasing the eSIMs, installation instructions are sent via email and details of the validity period for that eSIM
