Switch Recycling operates as a waste recovery and management service spanning Nigeria. My comprehensive design solution encompasses their operational framework, with a mobile application tailored for households and agents, a web application catering to aggregation centers and drivers, and an administrative dashboard for seamless oversight of the entire process.

The drop off process was created after exploring multiple directions, I was able to digitize their existing operations model working with the product managers and other core operations personel within Switch Recycling. The Drop Off Model uses agents around households to aggregate waste making it easier for people to drop off waste at a close agent location and get paid in return. A simple flow of the process is shown below.

These considerations were carefully thought of and some of the features introduced were:

Agents can register like households by downloading the application and providing extra KYC Details. These agents aggregate waste from households and in turn sell this waste at the Switch collection or Aggregation centers (Waste Collection Facilities). This approach enhances distribution of labour and creates an effective network for Switch to scale beyond its physical facility locations.

All drop-off scheduled with an agent appear here. A unique use case that was captured was the "Unregistered Households" these are individuals who do not have an account on the app but still want to recycle their waste. The agent can still carry out offline transactions with them through the app.
The Steps are;

Select Scheduled Drop Off

Enter Drop Off Code generated by the household to initiate transaction

Weigh each category of waste provided to generate a corresponding price

Check for impurities in the waste, impurities introduce price deductions, reducing the value of the waste

Send a payment confirmation request to the household

Household can accept or reject this payment amount

Upod acceptance the agent pays the user through the Switch App or using cash

This is an alternative feature to drop off. Switch drivers come directly to pick up waste from your location. From operations losses we discussed during the ideation we established that there will be a minimum weight quantity required before you are qualified to request for a pickup since the transportation services are free of charge.
The steps are similar with drop-off. Both Drop Off and Pick Up are available to both Agents and Households. With the Pick Up process a Switch employed driver fulfills and carries out the transaction process with either the agent or household and the driver pays on behalf of switch.

To drive the mobile applications (agents and household) other I designed other full scale web based platforms propreitary to Switch Recycling's processes. The collection centers are physical locations with essential facilities for collection of large quantities of waste, aggregation centers are similar but larger than collection centers in metric tonnes of waste it can house. Drivers essential for the pick up process are employed within these centers.

The admin platforms includes: Switch relationship mannager; responsible for handling financial issues with users accounts, Switch support; for customer relationship management and the overall Switch Admin with different access control levels for different departments within Switch Recycling.

It was a process to accurately encapsulate all the requirements within the PRD. I iterated through various designs and pathways to flesh out a specific feature, engaging in numerous review sessions with stakeholders to ensure alignment with the company's vision. Additionally, integrating multiple components into a cohesive whole posed a significant challenge. Each administrative screen had to seamlessly interact with the household, agents, drivers, and Switch Centers platforms. Despite the complexity, the experience of crafting such a system was immensely rewarding. Version 1's release marked just the beginning; we continuously refined and enhanced the system based on user feedback and exhaustive app testing.

I also worked on the branding of the software product creating a visual system for not just the software but any further marketing efforts they engage in.
