Project Background
Shout is a celebration app owned by Heritage Bank. It's core purpose is to share and celebrate key moments with loved ones while including certain unique financial features like anonymous gifting, food ordering and social media functionality.
Share important moments in life with those you care about.
Celebrate with friends
The home page of shout prioritizes sharing activities and celebrations on your timeline. The idea was to create and inner friend circle where only those you know can see what you post and share these moments with you. You can make posts, video content and status updates allowing friends on your timeline to interact with it. It also ensures privacy because only those added as contacts can view what you post.
Integrating A Restaurant Ordering System
The concept of celebration is usually accompanied with food. We made this decision to have various restaurants where people can buy food for their loved ones. This system includes restaurant inventory managements, location features, multiple payment options and a loyalty/rewards program. Users can browse through available restaurants, select the food they want from the menu, make an order and pay. The system also handle the delivery process and fulfilment of a placed order.
Order Flow
The key screens when ordering food are shown below. Before this you would have to setup your address so that your location is captured
- Select a restaurant from the list of merchants on the platform
- Select a meal from the different categories provided in their inventory, specifying quantity
- Add various items to cart and check out once you are done shopping
- The app presents you with 3 payment option, any of which you can select to make payment
- The app generates a receipt for that transaction
Ask a friend to Pay
I created this feature from what we discussed during our reseaerch phase. You can share a payment link with any of your friends on the Shout app. Once your request has been sent to your friends, a 10 mins timer is activated for them to fulfil the payment, this constraint was added to ensure that the order is completed and the funds are sent to the vendors to process the food order on time. Once the payment period has expired, the items are returned to your cart.
Order Fulfilment
Orders are handled by a Shout logistics partner. A single order can come from different restaurants at a time. We decided to manage the delivery process also to ensure we get each item from different vendors on behalf of the customer and then deliver to the customer. This ensures faster delivery times and reduces fraud.
Celebrate Friend
The Shout app helps people celebrate key events like birthdays, wedding anniversaries and special dates of your friends and loved ones. These dates are captured in your profile, you can view your friends birthdays and perform various actions to celebrate them on the app. Like send money, send food, send a message or make a post in the app.
Merchants
Merchants are a different user section idenitfied on app sign up. These are the food vendors on the app, which includes small scale vendors, caterers, chain restaurants, etc. The sign up process allows any business with valid registration documents to sign up on the application. Once they pass our KYC requirements they would be given a mobile platform on the app to upload their food invetory under their company name.
To accomodate chain restaurants with mulitple branches across the country the onboarding was designed in such a way a business headquarters can setup multiple locations on the app.

Merchant Navigation
The merchant app has 4 main areas
- Home: This conatains a mobile optimized dashboard giving vendors an overview of what is going on in their shop
- Orders: Vendors can track all orders made on the app. The categories they can track include; unfulfilled, fulfilled, delivery and pickup orders
- Menu: Manage all menu items within the restaurant here. You can create different variations and add ons to a specific meal item, manage prices, add or delete an item
- Profile: This provides financial management tools for the vendor, giving them the ability to monitor transactions, create payment links, and have access to loans, they can also manage the store locations on the website.
Merchant Dashboard
This dashboard has different sections that vendors use to track various financial metrics and orders made to them. The restaurant can see orders placed, with the latest order appearing at the top of the list. There are also charts displaying sales, earnings and points earned
Request Settlement
This was created to resolve payment issues between the vendors and the users, they can create a custom payment link and QR Code for any order placed and forward to a user. This allows them to see recent orders and resolve any payment issues that arise during that process.
Refund User
We encountered a unique problem, creating a system where refunds can be duely addressed and managed within the system without having to settle offline. Once certain conditions are not met or due to circumstances, the vendor can make either a full or partial refund to the user for a specific purchase they made and the refund history is captured in the system records.
Menu Management System
A complex system was created to enable vendors manage their menu items, since restaurants have different combo packs, add ons and variations of an item. Each menu item and variation can be created, edited and deleted under different grouping categories allowing users navigate through everything a vendor offers easily without being overwhelmed or confused.
